Raleigh Rebels Clinches Lead in Sixth Inning for Victory Over Raleigh Red Sox

Raleigh Rebels stole the lead late in the game in a 12-11 victory over Raleigh Red Sox on Sunday.  Raleigh Rebels trailed 10-9 in the bottom of the sixth inning when Phil Stubbs doubled on a 1-1 count, scoring two runs.

A six-run lead in the third inning was just enough for Raleigh Rebels to hold off Raleigh Red Sox for the victory.  Raleigh Red Sox scored nine runs in the failed comeback on a single by Seungho Huh in the fourth, a walk by Ron Daniel in the fifth, a walk by Tim Ryan in the fifth, a single by Brett Woodson in the fifth, a single by Rich Vincent in the sixth, a single by Montoya in the sixth, and a groundout by Huh in the seventh.

Raleigh Rebels fired up the offense in the first inning, when Woodson induced Damon Herbert to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored.

Raleigh Red Sox scored four runs in the fifth inning.  Daniel, Ryan, and Woodson all contributed in the big inning with RBIs.

Joey Sogluizzo pitched Raleigh Rebels to victory. The pitcher allowed four hits and two runs over two innings, striking out one and walking zero.  Vince Strickland and Mark Watson entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.  Sogluizzo recorded the last six outs to earn the save for Raleigh Rebels.

Vincent took the loss for Raleigh Red Sox. The bulldog surrendered four runs on five hits over two innings, striking out four and walking one.

Herbert started the game for Raleigh Rebels. Herbert lasted four innings, allowing four hits and three runs while striking out six and walking one Woodson started the game for Raleigh Red Sox. The hurler surrendered eight runs on seven hits over four innings, striking out three.

Raleigh Rebels had 12 hits in the game.  Paul Williams, Todd Koenitz, and Watson all managed multiple hits for Raleigh Rebels.  Watson, Koenitz, and Williams each collected two hits to lead Raleigh Rebels.

Raleigh Red Sox tallied nine hits on the day.  Woodson and Vincent all had multiple hits for Raleigh Red Sox.  Woodson went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Raleigh Red Sox in hits.
