Rebels Drops Game to Mets After Late Score

Sunday’s game against Fayetteville Mets was a heartbreaker for the Rebels, as they lost the lead late in a 4-3 defeat.

The game was tied at two with the Rebels batting in the top of the seventh when Paul Williams grounded out, scoring one run. The Rebels lost despite out-hitting the Mets ten to five.

The Mets captured the lead in the second inning. Allen Byrne grounded out, scoring one run. Larry Bowstring toed the rubber for the Mets. Bowstring went six innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and striking out three. Damon Herbert started the game for the Rebels. Herbert surrendered two runs on two hits over six innings, striking out eight and walking none.  Vince Strickland threw two innings in relief for the Rebels.

Todd Koenitz, Robb Morrison, and Ken Davidson all managed multiple hits for the Rebels. Koenitz went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Rebels in hits.
