The Raleigh Rebels fell behind early and couldn’t come back in an 18-3 loss to Alamance Giants on Saturday. The Giants took the lead on a groundout in the first inning.

The Rebels struggled to contain the high-powered Alamance Giants offense, giving up 18 runs.

In the first inning, the Giants got their offense started when Paul Burmeister grounded out, scoring one run.

Raleigh Rebels notched three runs in the fifth inning. Phil Buckley and Emilio Cruz each drove in runs during the inning.

The Giants scored seven runs in the fifth inning. The Giants offense in the inning was led by Jerry Russell, Brian Doucette, Mike Faircloth, Chris McKeon, Jim Upchurch, and Chuck Person, who each had RBIs in the inning.

Paul Burmeister was on the mound for the Giants. He went four innings, allowing zero runs on three hits, striking out four and walking zero.

Mark Watson toed the rubber for Raleigh Rebels. He went four and two-thirds innings, allowing 15 runs while striking out eight. Bradley McKenzie threw one inning out of the bullpen.

Emilio Cruz, Ken Davidson, Vince Strickland, Phil Buckley, Paul Williams, McKenzie, Mitch Strobin, and Watson all had one hit for Rebels.

Jerry Russell went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Giants in hits.
