Jon Proulx’s double is “niiiiice.”

The Red Sox scored four runs in the sixth inning. The big inning for Sox came thanks to a single by Mike Swing and a double by Brett Woodsen.

Rockies vs Mets

Big Inning Propels Rockies Over Mets

Butner — The Fayetteville Mets were an out away from closing out the sixth inning with a four run lead. With runners on first and third, Jeff Pate hit a sharp comebacker to the mound that was snagged by pitcher Larry Bowstring who then made an errant throw to first base. This error led to the Rockies scoring 13 runs to take a 16-7 lead and ultimate victory.

Jim McVitty (1-1) pitched six strong innings for the Rockies, giving up seven runs (five earned) over eleven hits to earn the complete game victory.

The Mets took a 1-0 lead in the first on a RBI single by Donald Rivers. The Rockies scored three in the second after Jim McVitty doubled home Juan Lopez. McVitty scored on Javier Martines’ single. Mike Brooks drove in the third run with a bases-loaded walk.

The Mets responded with four runs in the bottom half of the second after Larry Bowstring walked. Allen Byrne singled and Izzy Rodriguez reached on an error. Bowstring scored on a fielder’s choice ground out and then scored three more on three consecutive singles and a bases loaded walk.

The Mets added single runs in the third and fifth inning while Larry Bowstring, who came into relieve Allen Byrne, shut down the Rockies’ bats over three innings and would have been four if not for the error that started all the trouble and the Rockies’ run barrage that saw the Rockies get 14 hits and bat around their order.
