Rebels Falls To Alamance Giants

In the second inning, the Rebels struck first when Todd Koenitz singled on a 0-1 count, scoring Mark Watson. Rob Appel then drove in Joey Sogluizzo with a single and David Truffelman drew a bases-loaded walk setting the score at 3-0.

The Giants clawed one back in the bottom of the second when Larry Vuelta drove in Curtis Patterson.

The Giants pulled away with three runs in the third inning. In the third Bobby Lovette singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs and an error scored one more for them.

In the bottom of the 4th Vuelta would drive Patterson across again in the 4th giving the Giants a 5-3 lead.

In the top of the 6th, Watson’s single drove Mitch Strobin bringing the Rebel’s within one. In the bottom of the inning, the Giants would add two more runs cementing the win.

Curtis Patterson earned the win for the Giants. Curtis went seven innings, allowing four runs on six hits and striking out four.

Joey Sogluizzo took the loss for the Rebels. Sogluizzo allowed eight hits and seven runs while striking out three.

The Rebels racked up five hits in the game. Mark Watson and Koenitz each had multiple hits for Raleigh Rebels. Todd Koenitz and Mark Watson each managed two hits to lead Raleigh Rebels.

The Giants tallied eight hits on the day. Larry Vuelta, Jeff Husen, and Bobby Lovette all collected multiple hits.

Carolina Rockies vs HWS Garages

The Carolina Rockies held their playoff destiny in their own hands today, with a 11-7 win over HWS Garages to secure the sixth seed in next week’s playoffs.

After a sluggish start that led to seven early runs scored by HWS Garages, starting pitcher Jim McVitty (2-4) combined with Danny Sapp to shut down the HWS Garages’ offense for four innings, allowing only three hits.

Down 7-6 in the home half of the 5th inning, the Rockies scored five runs that began with consecutive hits by Everardo Guitierrez and Danny Sapp. Luis Lozano drove in a run on a sacrifice fly that was followed by hits from Jeff Pate and Jim McVitty. David McKnight capped the scoring with a double to drive in two runs.

The Rockies (3-8), with sixth place secured, will face the third seed Raleigh Rebels in the first round of the playoffs next Saturday at Heritage High School. Game time is 3:00 PM.
